A Mathematics teacher at St. John’s Sikinwa in Saboti Constituency, Trans Nzoia county was attacked and beaten by three of his form four students.
The students allegedly ambushed Nicholas Bett at his home that is adjacent to the day and boarding school at around 7.30pm.
The teacher is claimed to have been attacked by the students because of his no nonsense nature and his strictness in making the students take interest in the subject.
The students who are all day scholars are said to have hit Bett on the head with a blunt object before descending on him with kicks and blows.
Two other teachers, John Naibei and Michael Odhiambo, who reside in the same compound with Bett managed to escape unhurt after neighbors raised alarm forcing the students to flee.
The three candidates have not reported to school since the Saturday evening incident.
Naibei and Odhiambo proceeded to Gituamba Police Station to file a report urging the authorities to arrest and charge the rogue students.
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teacher (KUPPET) Trans Nzoia County Secretary General Fred Lusweti has urged Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to transfer the three teachers.
The incident has elicited mixed reactions among netizens with some condemning the students for their action.
“Truly this is out of order imagine a student striking a teacher is lack of discipline…yes Maths is a subject which is never liked and smothering student never make them pass…I don’t mean u beat them but this subject needs very strong guidelines…i.e. doing more test and assignment you realize that Maths is the easiest subject so far,” A Facebook user wrote.
“Abomination this shouldn’t happen again then what do they go to school to do? While students have been crying for lack of fees some have extra energy to attack the knowledge …If you don’t obey the parent /elders then you aren’t obeying statues of God,” he further stated.
