Azimio la Umoja rally in Kisii that was led by Martha Karua on Thursday June 30 ended abruptly after a tear gas exploded just when she had taken to the podium to address Azimio la Umoja-OKA supporters.
Karua was immediately whisked away from the podium at the Gusii stadium to her car by her bouncers and left the venue before making her address. Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida, was also present at the stadium.

The tear gas was accidentally dropped by a police officer who was ruthlessly attacked by locals. The officer was however rescued by his colleagues who whisked him away from the scene.
The National Police Service also confirmed that a police officer was responsible for the explosion.
“The said officer is currently in custody assisting with further investigations to unravel all the circumstances surrounding the incident,” NPS said in a statement
Karua however managed to return to Nairobi safely after the unfortunate incident and was able to make a few comments after disembarking from the plane at the airport.
The Narc Kenya party leader said that their campaigns in Kisii were great and that lots of people showed up for the meeting. She added that they will keep campaigning [despite such incidents] so that Azimio can win elections.
“It has been a great day in Kisii by the way. Several things happening. Very eventful and great great turn out of the Kisii people both in town and at the stadium. It is a countdown. We are going to keep campaigning, we are got to win this election by a landslide and I am urging all Kenyans to help us do it because we got something good for the country, transform the lives of the people,” Karua said.
On the other hand, Murang’a Women Rep Sabina Chege, who had accompanied Martha Karua, said,” It was very nice we had fun in Kisii, coming back to Nairobi and ready for a better tomorrow. Azimio is the game. Form ni Mama na Baba.”
