*Tit for Tat is not always a fair game at least before the court of law

You might have loaned a friend some cash and he has refused to pay back the cash. And out of frustration, you take one of his property to cancel the loan he owes you. Well, by doing that you have committed a crime at least before a magistrate.

And this is what the magistrate told a suspect who had done the same thing.

“You ought to have been charged with robbery, not just this simple charge,” the magistrate told the suspect, who was instead charged with theft.

According to the suspect, he decided to “auction” his friend’s items after he refused to pay him back.

But the man and his partner in “crime” insisted that it was not theft but a payback situation, to which the complainant admitted.

“Yes they took to pay back themselves and I forgive them,” he told Kibera chief magistrate Abdulkadir Lorot.

The case was withdrawn by the court.

*Fake magistrate finally meet the real Judicial officer

In an interesting twist, a suspect who impersonated a magistrate had a date with the legit judicial officers

“Bwana magistrate mwenzangu usijali, just relax and don’t go away just stand here we are not yet done,” a Nairobi magistrate told the suspect.

The suspect appeared to be afraid, uncomfortable, and embarrassed and tried hard to avoid showing his face to the journalist.

Sources have also revealed that the suspects even refused to have his photo taken by the police officers.

In response to his stubbornness, the magistrate had to give him some lessons on the law.

“The law allows the police to take your photo and so, just go back and come tomorrow after your photo is taken,” the magistrate told him.

The following day, the suspect appeared court, well-armed with a hood and a mask. He couldn’t be recognized until the magistrate ordered him to remove it.

*There better punishments than jail term and or fine

A man who pleaded guilty for destroying trees in Ngong Forest was on Tuesday ordered by a Nairobi Magistrate to plant more trees within three months.

This is after the man admitted to burning charcoal to enable him to feed his family.

“I entered the forest to burn charcoal but my apologies,” he pleaded.

“You will plant trees for three months in the forest and help us conserve trees,” the magistrate ruled.

Not that harsh ruling but a reasonable one isn’t it?
