15 Members of parliament(MPs) have been proposed as members of the appointment committee which is set to vet individuals that were nominated for cabinet positions by president Willliam Ruto.
The list of MPs was tabled by the majority leader Kimani Ichungwa and seconded by the minority leader Opiyo Wandayi.
While presenting the names, Ichungwa noted that the MPs proposed to join the Appointments committee were picked from both the majority and minority coalitions unlike what in the 11th parliament.
“You can remember in the 11th parliament, we had a committee from the majority side without having consideration for any member of the minority side. When we met as a committee yesterday we agreed unanimously on the names that are here. If you look at this list they are not just renowned members but the list also considers other factors such as regional and gender balance,” the majority leader stated.
MPs proposed include Suna East MP Junet Mohammed(ODM), Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda(KANU), Belgut MP Nelson Koech(UDA), Imenti North MP Abdul Rahim Dawood who was elected on an Independent ticket, Caleb Amisi( Saboti, ODM) and Matungulu MP Stephen Mule of Wiper.
Others on the list are Mishi Mboko(Likoni, ODM), Rahab Wachira Mukami (Nyeri Women Rep, Jubilee), Dido Ali Raso, George Gitonga Murugara, David Gikaria(Nakuru East, UDA), Ferdinand Wanyonyi(Kwanza,), Mary Emaase(Teso South, UDA) and David Pkosing(KUP, Pokot South).
