List Of 30 Teachers Fired By TSC Over Sexual Assault

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recommended the removal of 30 teachers from its register on sexual assaults of learners.

In a document, the affected teachers were issued by notices between September 14 and 25, 2020.

Some of the teachers on the list include Peter Githu, Simon Kama, Namu Njoka, Stephen Munyi, Anthony Onyango, Douglas Shibira, Oscar Obonyo, and Barawa Sanga.

Others include Philip Langat, Joel Nyakwara, Wafula Nyongesa, David Langat, Samuel Namuye, William Orata, Nicanor Yego, Leonard Kipkosgei, Patrick Nyangau among others.

In the document seen by the Star, the accused teacher have a case to answer as evidence of the activities they might have committed.

In 2018, TSC accused its employees in private schools of perpetuating sexual harassment of learners.

According to the report by the TSC private schools are the most affected.

Article 237 of the Constitution mandates the TSC to undertake teacher management functions such as registration of qualified teachers, maintenance of teaching standards, and safeguarding professionalism in the teaching service.

Back in 2016, the United Nation agency raised an alarm about sexual harassment of learners aged between 13 to 17 by teachers.

According to Unesco teachers are the perpetrators of sexual harassment with an average of 39 percent of school principals stating that teacher-learners harassment had happened in their schools.

The global education monitoring report shows that 40 percent of school principals reported learner-learner sexual harassment in their schools.
