For the better part of Wednesday evening, reports that Weston Hotel was going to be demolished made rounds in social media.
This is after several bull dozers were pictured parked along Lang’ata Road just a few meters from where the Hotel owned by Deputy President William Ruto stands.
The reports went viral after being shared by a twitter handle associated by Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi.
“The Deep State are indeed cornered. They have today decided to express their fury by attempting to demolish Weston Hotel.” Wrote Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi on twitter.
Ruto’s allies went ahead to blame the government for the purported demolition.
“So, Deep State sends two police lorries and 2 Sany excavators to Weston Hotel to demolish it. But the officers declined the instructions unless they get written orders. Harambee House Prefects, tuko radar yenu.” Wrote Langata legislator Nickson Korir.
A statement was also issued over the same.
“THEY ARE NOW DARING! WESTON HOTEL is an Hotel associated with the Deputy President and has been in existence for more than 10 years. When Uhuru and Ruto were campaigning in 2013 and 2017, the hotel existed. Nobody questioned its legitimacy. Nobody had issues with the land it stands on,” part of the statement read.
However it has now been established that Weston hotel demolitions were just baseless rumors.
According to a police hotel attached to Lang’ata police station, they were not aware of any plans to demolish the hotel.
The hotel that stands opposite Wilson Airport is claimed to be on a public land and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority sought to have it demolished.
In July 2021, DP Ruto filed a fresh application in court seeking to stop the demolition of the hotel was found to have been irregularly built on public land.
