Laikipia Women Rep Cate Waruguru has warned William Ruto that he will be in for a rude shock days after the DP bragged that he is the political supremo of Mt Kenya.
Ruto bragged that he is the political supremo of Mt Kenya in the wake of Raila Odinga’s aggressive forays into the region.
Speaking at the Nyahururu DEB Primary School in Laikipia County on October 9, 2021, Ruto said Mt Kenya has its owners while dismissing Raila’s tours.
“Kuna watu wamejua leo ati kuna mlima na sasa wameanza kutafta Google map ati ili waanze kupanda mlima, ningetaka kuwaambia kuwa mimi ndiye mwenye mlima (There are people who have realised today there is a mountain and are now looking for it on Google Maps. They should know that I call the shots here),” said Ruto.
He added that;
“I am welcoming them to the mountain but as they come, let them know that mlima ina wenyeji (Mt Kenya has its owners). When they were away, I made several tours to the region, we built roads and initiated other development projects.”
Laikipia Women Rep Cate Waruguru has since warned Ruto against chest thumbing that he has already captured the imagination of Mt Kenya region people ahead of 2022 general elections to elect him as the next president of Kenya.
Speaking in a meeting at Laikipia, Waruguru said that it is not yet time for Ruto to chest thumb that he is going to sweep the mountain votes next year, because his popularity graph in the region is continuing to drop down ahead of next year’s elections.
Latest survey indicated that Ruto’s support in Mt. Kenya had dropped by 24%. The report indicates that the deputy president’s approval rating in Mt Kenya is currently at 61% down from 85% in January.
Waruguru attributes Ruto’s dwindling popularity in Mt Kenya to his wars with party leaders from the region.
The Laikipia Women Rep argued that Ruto’s graph in Mt Kenya region began to drop down from the time when he began underrating the small parties from that region, selling UDA as the only party which should be used by the region in upcoming 2022 elections.
She says the DP’s graph is continuing to drop slowly and he might not be able to hold his voters from the region until next year’s elections.
“Nataka Kusema Ukweli! Niseme au Ninyamaze! Unajua kuna watu nimeskia wakisema wao hawawezi ati itikia vyama Mingi. Wanafikiria ya kwamba sisi Wakikuyu tunatambua kitu yoyote? My friend, utarukwa na wakikuyu mpaka ushangae,” Waruguru said.
She added;
“William Ruto graph yake ilianza kushuka wakati alianza kudharau hawa wengine wenye vyama ndogo ndogo kutoka Mt Kenya. Akaanza kusema UDA is one man show na hawa wengine hawana nafasi. Don’t get excited when you see people cheering and clapping for you in political rallies. Hawa watu wanaeza pinduliwa tu haraka na waanze kukupigia nduru.”
Waruguru’s sentiments comes days after she revealed that she was still undecided on who between Raila and Ruto she should support.
However, Waruguru seems to be inclining towards Raila’s side judging from her criticisms of Ruto and also the DP’s dwindling support in Mt Kenya.
