KRA has mourned the death of one of its officers who was stung to death by bees on Saturday at around midday.
Till his untimely death, John Mutwiri was an investigations and enforcement officer at the agency.
KRA mourned him saying that he was a dedicated professional Tax Administrator and that the agency will miss him dearly.
“Colleagues at KRA will attest that Mr. Mutwiri, a supervisor in the investigations and enforcement department based at Customs House, Mombasa was a dedicated and professional Tax Administrator. He undertook his duties diligently and remained committed to the tenets of a world class tax investigative and enforcement. We are heartbroken at the loss of this dependable colleague,” KRA said in a statement.
Police in Mombasa are investigating events that led to the bee attack.
The officer was driving a Subaru Forester at Majengo Red Brick area and was in the company of his two friends when the swarm entered the car and began stinging them.
The trio escaped from the car to different directions but Mutwiri was overwhelmed by the stings and he collapsed.
“The bees entered the vehicle and they alighted to get their safety outside. They all ran to different directions. The driver, Mutwiri was however overwhelmed by the bee stings and fell at a nearby garage where through the assistance of the garage owner Mwaruwa Chikophe, he managed to get a Tuk Tuk and rushed to a hospital for treatment,” the police report read.
The investigations and enforcement officer at KRA was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The deceased’s body was transferred to the hospital’s morgue awaiting autopsy.
Cases of bee attacks seem to be on the rise in recent days. In October, a man in Kisumu was stung to death by a swarm of bees that had attacked his elderly father.
The 65-year old succumbed to bee stings after he rushed to save his 85-year old dad who had been attacked by the swarm in their home.
