A 65-year old man lost his life on Friday after being stung by a swarm of bees when he tried to rescue his 85-year old father.
The incident occurred at their home in Kotunga village in Kajulu, Kisumu East sub county
According to reports, the bees first attacked the father before descending on the deceased as he shielded his father with a blanket.
The survivor was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital while in critical condition.
Kajulu West location Chief Tobias Omollo confirmed the incident saying that the deceased managed to cover his father from more stings.
“The deceased braved the bees – to cover his frail father with a blanket and managed to rescue him from being stung any further. Unfortunately, the bees turned on him and stung him to death,” Omollo said.
The administrator said that attempts by locals to scare away the bees did not bear fruits.
It is alleged that the family was practicing beekeeping in their compound. The attack by the bees was triggered by a lorry that was ferrying sand.
Elsewhere, two children died in a house fire on Friday night in Gakwegori area, Embu West Sub County.
The minors, aged 4 and 5 were sleeping in their house while their mother had gone to deliver food to their father who works as a night guard when the incident occurred.
When the mother returned home, she found their house up in flames thus raising alarm. Neighbors responded to the distress call but it was too late.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary.
