Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen has joined leaders and Kenyans in general in mourning the late William Chepkut.
Chepkut died on Saturday morning after collapsing while at his home. He was rushed to Parklands Mediheal Hospital but efforts to resuscitate him proved futile.
Murkomen however revealed that he met with Chepkut on Friday evening just hours before he was pronounced dead. According to him, the lawmaker was jovial and spoke well of him.
“Last evening I met Hon. William Chepkut in the company of his friends. He was in a very jovial mood. In his characteristic manner he showered me with many praises using all the superlatives in the book. William was a very lovely guy. Extremely connected Loyal to his seniors almost to a fault.
“When we parted last night at 8PM we agreed to meet soon to discuss matters Infrastructure. I didn’t know it was going to be the last time with him. Fare thee well Hon. William Chepkut” the senator said.
Others who have mourned him include; Embakasi East MP Babu, Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff and former National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi who described him as a humorous leader.
“I’m deeply saddened to hear the demise of former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut. Chepkut was a highly humorous politician who always referred to himself as “the only soul alive”. May your happy memories give your family peace and comfort,” Muturi said.
President William Ruto also mourned Chepkut. In his condolence message, the head of state described him as ‘as an astute politician who was known for his humility and humour.’
“Mr Chepkut was down-to-earth and a witty politician who served his people with dedication,” Ruto said.
