Kiambu Family Set To Bury Kin After Four Years Of Preserving His Remains In A Wooden Box

Date:

A family in Kiambu will now be able to bury the remains of their kin who was killed four years ago by hyenas.

63-year old Joseph Njuguna met his death  after being attacked by the wild animals when he had gone to graze livestock in 2017.

Since then, the family has been preserving his remains that include bones, intestines, hair and ribs and his tattered clothes inside a wooden box in their family house that is located 20km from the Thika super highway.

The remains were found after a thorough investigation by the scene of crime investigators after the attack.

The family’s four-year plight was finally addressed after their story was highlighted by K24. The family was finally handed DNA results proving that it was their kin Njuguna who had been mauled to death by the hyenas.

DNA results are said to have come out in March last year but the officer in charge delayed to inform the relatives.

Agnes Waithera, a member of the family, said that DCI detectives visited their home and apologized over the delay of Njuguna’s justice.

“We are happy that action has been taken finally. We can now afford to bury Njuguna with dignity having lived with his remains since 2017 when the attack happened. We thank K24 Digital for airing our plight and triggering action,” Waithera said.

The remains were finally taken to General Kago mortuary in Thika for autopsy before the family could finally lay their kin to rest.

“The officers told us that after the postmortem, they will help us organize for Njuguna’s burial,” she added.

This comes just days after hyenas once again attacked Juja locals in Kiambu county leading to the deaths of two people.

Locals at Komo, Muthaara and Kang’oki villages are now living in fear following the attacks from the wild animals.
