Former Harambee Stars striker Kevin Oliech Opiyo passed away in Germany on Sunday, August 16, 2020.
Oliech died at the age of 33. A spokesman for the family, Nixon Oliech, confirmed that Oliech died while admitted at a hospital in the European nation.
Nixon disclosed that Kevin had been battling Cancer for the past four years leading to his death.
Kevin was a younger brother to legendary Harambee Stars internationals Andrew Oyombe and Dennis Oliech, widely considered as some of the country’s greatest ever footballing talents.
He featured for several teams in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) including Mathare United, Nairobi City Stars, Ulinzi Stars, Ushuru FC and Tusker FC.
Kevin’s passing comes two years after the death of his mother, Mary Auma Oliech known to many as Mama Oliech to gastric cancer.
Other than being the mother to some of Kenya’s most famous sporting personalities, she was also behind a popular fish restaurant bearing her name.
Kevin also made appearance for two sides in the lower tiers of German football;Â KFC Uerdingen 05 and Alemannia Aachen.
