Kenyatta University Intervenes to Help Injured Students After Tragic Accident

Date:

A Kenyatta University bus ferrying students, on their way to Mombasa for an academic trip was involved in an accident with a tractor trailer at Maungu, Taita Taveta County last night.

Sadly, reports so far indicate there are student fatalities. The University dispatched a team from the Main Campus and Mombasa Campus to the accident scene last night to assess the situation, assist survivors and provide accurate report.

The team includes two doctors, medical personnel, University security officers as well as students’ and staff wellness officers. Some of the injured students are in the process of assessment for possible evacuation to Nairobi depending on their status.

At the moment we are not able to share specific numbers and/or names but can confirm that there are several fatalities involved. The University will provide a more comprehensive report later today as information becomes available. Kenyatta University is deeply saddened by the tragic accident.

On behalf of the University Council and the University Management Board, I wish to convey our deepest heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones in this tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

In the meantime the University has set up a Help Desk at Business Students Services Centre (BSSC) Room 151 and Mobile No. 020 2310709 or 0723 352 483 to respond to queries as we offer support and assistance during this challenging time.
