Kenyans on Saturday were elated after photos emerged showing how simple Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid is as she left the country.
Kaljulaid arrived in the country on Thursday September 9 for a three day official visit.
The president was seen off by Internal Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo and her Defence counterpart Monica Juma on Saturday night at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Dressed in a simple jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of sneakers, the 52-year old was seen carrying her own luggage as boarded an economic plane unlike Kenyan VIPs who always have an escort to carry their luggage as they use their private jets.
When she arrived in the country , Kaljulaid did not have any military aid forcing the government to provide one for her.
“No private jet. She’s carrying her own luggage including what you gifted her. Isn’t her humility impressive?” a netizen remarked.
“Our leaders in Kenya have a colonial mentality. Look at her dress code. Very casual. Our leaders should learn from these photos,” another one noted.
Kaljulaid Was in Kenya to hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta on matters of great importance between the two countries.
The two Heads of State witnessed the signing of bilateral framework of cooperation on Political Consultations, Health as well as a letter of intent in the area of environment.
During her stay in the country, she participated in cleaning a street clean-up exercise and took part in a 10 km race against Kenyan athletes.
She was the first-ever President from Estonia to visit the Republic of Kenya after receiving an invite from President Kenyatta.
She was elected in office in October 2016 as the first female president of Estonia and the fifth president of the country since it gained independence in 1918.
She is also the youngest president to be ever elected in her country. Kaljulaid was became president at 46 years.
