The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued the weather prediction for January 2024.

According to the forecast released on January 1, most parts of the country will experience sunny and dry weather conditions.

The North Rift, Central Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley (Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Nakuru, Central and Western parts of Laikipia are likely to experience generally sunny and dry conditions throughout the month though a few days may experience light to moderate rainfall especially during the fourth week of the month, the weatherman observed.

However, the southern half of the country is expected to receive occasional rainfall with some breaks during the month. Areas within the Southern half include Highlands East of the Rift Valley and Central Kenya (Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and eastern parts of Laikipia).

“North-eastern Region (Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo, Mandera and Marsabit): are likely to experience sunny and dry conditions during the month. However, occasional light rainfall may be experienced over a few areas during the fourth week
of the month,” the weatherman added.

According to the weatherman, the sunny and dry conditions set to be experienced in some parts of the country would be ideal for crop harvesting as well as land preparations in readiness for the coming planting season in the agricultural areas.

Whereas, areas which receive rain will help sustain water demand.

“The public is encouraged to adopt rainwater harvesting and storage practices,” the government advised.
