Karanja Kibicho: Why We Attend Azimio Events And Not Kenya Kwanza Ones Despite Being Civil Servants

Date:

Interior PS Karanja Kibicho has denied claims of civil servants including Cabinet secretaries and permanent secretaries being involved with political campaigns.

Kibicho who was speaking in an interview with Citizen TV explained why some civil servants have been seen with political aspirants in some events and gatherings.

According to him, they attend rallies so as to provide Kenyans with civic education, as it is their mandate, and not politicking as many think.

“There is a very big difference about campaigns and getting involved with civic education of our people and there is some right we will not accept that it is removed from  us because we are duty-bound to go and give civic education to our people,” the PS said.

Kibicho said that they inform people on a list of important things, such as the integrity and development consciousness, that they should check on a politician when he/she comes asking for votes before making the decision to vote for him or her.

He further said that there are some politicians who don’t like them mentioning such things to the public adding that that is the reason why they are always attacking them instead of using their time to inform Kenyans about their development plans.

“I think there are people who actually draw a line that you are not supposed to speak about these things, civil servants are Kenyans and we live here. What we don’t do is probably go and start saying vote for me because I am not  a candidate.

“We are human being as well  but we have a certain group of politicians in this country who when they get into the microphone, instead of using it talking about what they will do for people , what they will do to develop this country, all they do is talk about Kibicho, Matiang’i,” Kibicho said.

He went on to explain why they attend Azimio rallies and events but not Kenya Kwanza ones yet their duty is to educate Kenyans of all political divides.

“We are called upon to give civic education to all Kenyans regardless of the political divide and I know you are talking about the invitations we get probably from the Azimio group and I challenge you today, let the other group to invite us tomorrow and we go and give [civic education].

“We have not received any invitations from Kenya Kwanza. You don’t go to  a place you have not been invited to, because all you have heard from them are them hurling insults towards you instead of them using their time wisely to ask votes from people because even if you took a whole day in your area insulting Kibicho, Kibicho will not be in the ballot paper,” HE said
