Kamiti Millionaires: State Confirms Ksh60 Million To Be Released To Captors Of Terror Escapees

Date:

It’s reprieve to the people who captured three terror convicts who escaped from Kamiti Maximum Prison as the government has now confirmed it’s releasing the cash reward.

The government announced Ksh20 million cash reward for each of the three terror convicts who escaped from Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Musharaf Abdalla alias Alex Shikanda (34), Joseph Juma Odhiambo (30) and Mohammed Ali Abikar (35) were arrested in Enzio forest in Mwingi East, Kitui County days after they escaped from Kamiti.

The three were arrested following a tip-off from the public and are believed to have been heading to Somalia.

There have been speculations about the cash reward but now the government has assured captors of the Kamiti escapees that they will be paid.

A statement issued by the National Police Service stated that the government was assessing the situation to determine the reward goes to the deserving recipients.

“Following the escape of three terror convicts from the Kamiti Maximum Prison on Monday 17th November 2021, the Government announced a cash reward of Kshs 20 million for information that would lead to the recapture of each escapee. Subsequent to the capture of the escapees, there has been a high public interest in the fate of the promised cash reward. The Government acknowledges that the rearrests of the suspects was made possible with the support from members of the public. Indeed, the accounts of several people who separately claim to have played a role in the capture have been reported extensively in the media. The Government intends to honor its pledge on the cash reward off. This will, however, be subject to a due verification process to ensure the reward goes to deserving recipients,” read the statement from National Police Service.

The statement further indicated that the eventual beneficiaries of the cash reward will not be revealed in public due to the security nature of the incident and the risk it could pose.

“The security nature of the incident and the risk to harm to those who genuinely aided the capture of the high value trio may militate against a full public disclosure of the eventual beneficiaries of the cash award.”
