Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Dr. Steven kalonzo Musyoka has settled on one little known Andrew Leteipa Ole Sunkuli as his runningmate.
The announcement by Kalonzo came as a shocker with many people wondering why the Wiper boss settled on someone with a low public profile or rather a stranger in the eyes of many Kenyans.
Well, Andrew Leteipa Ole Sunkuli was born in Kilgoris constituency and is the son of the late Francis Ole Sunkuli. Sunkuli is also the chairman of Mara Education Trust, an Educationist, a Publisher, an entrepreneur and also a politician.
Strangely, Kalonzo’s runningmate doesn’t see eye to eye with his brother politically. For instance, he competed against his brother Julius Sunkuli in 2013 for the senatorial seat.
Fast-forward, the two brothers also declared that they would contest against each other for the second time in a row in the coming 2022 general elections thanks to Kalonzo who just brought peace between them by choosing one as his runningmate.
Addressing the media on Monday, Kalonzo revealed that he decided to jump ship after being shortchanged in the Azimio alliance where he was hoping that Raila would appoint him as his deputy.
“My brother Raila knows I am naming my running mate. He came to my house to try and convince me to accept his choice. We did not agree and he said he would choose Martha and I told him I would choose my own running mate,” he said.
“My honest opinion is that OKA continues as originally established and we move on, compare notes. We have business to save this nation,” he added.
Interestingly, Kalonzo Musyoka was named by Raila odinga as the chief cabinet secretary in the Azimio government and it remains unclear whether he will shelve his presidential ambitions and take up the position.
