Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga announced that he had settled on Martha Karua as his running mate.
The ODM leader made the announcement at KICC on Monday May 16 as he showered the Narc Kenya leader with lots of praises.
“At the age of 24, this woman was appointed a magistrate, years later she became the youngest woman MP, she led a team of lawyers to represent me when I was in detention, this woman is a fighter and not a quitter,” Raila said.
She was among the three people who had qualified as Raila’s running mate. The other two were Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Member of Parliament for Gatanga Peter Kenneth.
Karua’s nomination was received well by Azimio supporters especially women as well as several other Kenyans who have vowed to vote for Raila just to make Karua the first female deputy president of Kenya.
The former Gichugu Mp’s nomination was as well criticized by anti-Raila supporters, a notable one being exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna.
According to Miguna, Raila choosing Karua as his running mate is good news to his opposers who are bound to see him retire. This is because she will add little value to Raila’s candidature judging from her performance in 2013 general elections.
“The choice of Martha Karua as conman @RailaOdinga‘s running mate is MAGNIFICENT news for those committed to RETIRING the conman. Karua ran for president as a WOMAN in 2013 and got 43,881 from the entire country. Goodbye, conman @RailaOdinga. Retire in peace! Viva!” the lawyer said on Twitter.
Miguna went ahead to claim that Martha Karua helped president Kibaki steal the 2007 elections while accusing her for terrorising judiciary during her tenure as the minister of Justice.
“Martha Karua TERRORIZED the Judiciary when she was Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. She abused power, TORTURED and PERSECUTED Justice GBM Kariuki and MISused @PoliceKEÂ and Courts AFTER helping Mwai Kibaki STEAL elections. Kenyans have said NO MORE,” Miguna further said.
