Kalonzo Ally Escapes Death Trap By A Whisker While Drumming Support For Azimio

Date:

Kalonzo Musyoka’s ally Farah Maalim escaped death by a whisker on Thursday July 28 while campaigning in Garissa.

Narrating the experience through a tweet, the deputy party leader of Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya  revealed that he nearly lost his life while on a campaign trail in Liboi since an Improvised Explosive Device had been planted on his campaign route.

He was in the area to drum up support for Azimio-OKA candidates as the general election date closes in.

Maalim and those who were accompanying him are lucky to be alive after their security got wind of the deadly plans that were awaiting them.

“Our hawk eyed security officers got intelligence info of IED’s planted in my campaign route to liboi. They halted my convoy, rerouted us to safe detour & engaged services of bomb disposal experts. They then detonated the IED’s with ease. My profound gratitude to our officers,” Maalim stated.

“The exploded IED’s left a crater in the road. Congratulations to our gallant security officers for saving lives during this critical electioneering period,” he added.

Maalim has been in Kenya’s political scene for the last 30 years. He previously served as the deputy speaker of the National Assembly and MP for Lagdera constituency from 2008-2013.

In 2013 elections, he unsuccessfully vied for an MP seat while in 2017 he was floored by Ken Lusaka in the Senate speaker race.

He has since joined Kalonzo in National politics and was a key instrument in the reunion between the Wiper party leader and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
