A 55-year old woman from Kakamega committed suicide by hanging herself inside her house leaving behind a suicide note.
The deceased identified as Elimina Khati Makongo decided to take her own life after being fed up with the constant harassments from her son.
In the suicide note, Khati said that she was tired of being assaulted by her son Nicholas Lingua terming him as a thorn in her body.
The deceased’s aged mother Catherine Masitsa said that her daughter had complained about Lingua’s behavior but efforts to solve the issue were futile.
“She complained of being harassed by the boy who happens to be my grandson and efforts to resolve the matter bore no fruit but I never thought it would reach to this extent,” Masista noted.
The locals also confirmed that the man assaulted his mother several times and their efforts to plead with him to stop the habit fell on deaf ears.
“We tried to reprimand him but he could not heed our advice and now he is responsible for his mother’s death,” a local said.
In another incident, a 32-year old man is said to have killed his 25-year old wife in Bomet after a disagreement ensued between them over a loan they had borrowed from a lender at Mulot trading center.
The suspect, Nicholas Sang, killed his wife by slitting her throat before attempting suicide by consuming poison.
According to the area Chief Robert Kataam, the body of the deceased was found a few meters from the couple’s home indicating that she might have been killed elsewhere before her body was moved.
Angry locals stormed the home baying for the suspect’s blood and found him writhing in pain after consuming the poison.
Elders with the help of Nyumba Kumi administrators restrained the irate mob from attacking the suspect. He was taken to Longisa referral hospital while the body of the deceased was transferred to the hospital’s morgue.
