Kabete Killing: How Boda Boda Riders Went For Their Deaths At Night

Date:

Rogue Kabete police officer Benson Imbatu went on a killing spree on Tuesday night before later turning the gun on himself later the same night.

The 51 year old Constable Benson Imbatu first killed his wife of three months without revealing why he did it. The wife was only identified as Carol.

According to Daily Nation, the owner of the building where Imbatu  began his shooting spree said the policeman arrived home a few minutes past midnight in the company of Carol and another officer.

“He dropped her at the apartment and thereafter took his colleague home. Several minutes later, he returned and demanded that he parks his vehicle inside the compound. The night guards told him that the parking slots were fully occupied. He got angry and told the guards to ‘create space for me inside, or else I shoot you dead.'”

“It took a lot of convincing to make him park the car outside the compound. After parking his car, he stormed into the apartment. He was visibly angry. Minutes later, the guards said they heard a gunshot from one of the houses. Upon rushing to the scene, they found fire had started engulfing Imbatu’s house and the body of his girlfriend was on the floor.” Said the landlord who wanted his identity to remain private.

Feeling guilty, constable Benson Imbatu left the house but he was not lucky since the gunshots had already attracted the neighbours including the boda boda riders who were within the Kabete area.

Without knowing how lethal and armed the killer officer based at Kabete was, the boda boda riders started pursuing him and on catching up with him, they started questioning him why he was running away.

However, a violence ensued as the officer could not stomach the aggressiveness emanating from the boda boda riders. It is at that point when he shot one of them who died on the spot.

While escaping as narrated by the Daily Nation, he shot two neighbours who also died at the scene. Another boda boda would make a mistake of giving him a chase whom he angrily shot on the head and ended up dying later at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

By that time, the Kabete based Imbatu had used 20 bullets in total with fellow officers believing that his rage was triggered by the late girlfriend Carol whom he suspected of cheating.

The two are reported to have met at a local bar where Carol used to work. He would later woo the lady who accepted to be with him before later moving in at an apartment in Kangemi together.

So strong was their love that Constable Benson decided to invest in Carol by opening her a bar within Kabete town. Later, mistrust reigned in with Carol having a difficult time to prove and assure the officer that she was still in love with him.

However, the officer had already made up his mind and not even those sweet words from his lover would change his resolution of killing her.

As of yesterday,  two more people and another boda boda rider were responding to treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
