Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho on Monday stole the show from Raila Odinga at Meru’s Laare market as he assured residents of goodies.
Joho, who addressed thousands of crowd told them that there would be no tax for miraa in the county of Mombasa.
“Na mimi nimesikia vile baba amesema, yeye akiwa rais, atafungua milango ya kupeleka miraa Somalia, atafungua milango ya Miraa kuenda DRC, na mimi nasema kwa sababu mumenipokea vizuri, kuanzia leo, ile miraa inaingia Mombasa, hailipishwi ushuru tena.” Said Joho amidst happy chants from the locals.
“Tebu nirudie tena, kwanzia leo, ile miraa inaingia Mombasa, hailipishwi nini? Na alafu niwaambie, mkiniangalia naman hii, nataka niwe serikali ya Raila Amollo Odinga. Na nikiingia serikali, nawahakikishia, nitarudi hapa tupige mipango za siku za usoni.
“Mimi nawahakikishia, kule pwani tumeshika, mtashikilia huku? baba aendelee? baba aendelee?” Said Joho to the excited crowd.
Joho had accompanied Raila Odinga to Meru county in his azimio la umoja campaigns meant to unite the country. Other leaders who attended the rally were Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi, Laikipia governor Ndiritu Muriithi, Suna East member of parliament Junnet Mohamed and other local leaders.
On his side, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader reiterated his one man one vote one shillings as he castigated deputy president William Samoei Ruto for opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which was to allocate them more money.
However, the opposition leader assured the residents that reggae would resume so that the one man one vote one shilling is achieved.
In the meantime, Former Prime minister Raila Odinga was recently caught up in supremacy battles between Isiolo governor Mohammed Kuti and his arch rival former governor Godana Doyo.
The visibly angry Isiolo residents who attended Raila’s Azimio La Umoja almost brought the event to a premature end as they continuously chanted “Kuti must go! Kuti must go!” and “Doyo Doyo Doyo!”
It seemed the Isiolo residents were not happy with their current governor Mohammed Kuti, which forced a number of leaders such as Junet Mohamed to intervene with no success.
While there, the opposition leader said he would ensure the region becomes an economic hub through various development projects such as railway, dams, modern slaughterhouses, and expansion of the Isiolo airport.
He further promised to end boundary conflicts that have affected the region for the longest time possible.
“We shall build industries for slaughtering your animals. This place already has an airport, I will ensure its runway is expanded so that bigger planes start operating in this region. The planes will be carrying meat from this place to foreign countries. We will also build a skin-processing factory so that we can manufacture shoes from Isiolo,” Raila said.
