Dennis Itumbi together with Miguna Miguna has taken to social media to express their disappointment in the system after bloggers purported to have shared news about the interior Cabinet Secretary got arrested.
Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Security in Kenya Dr. Fred Okengo Matiang’i had two bloggers arrested over alleging that Matiang’i had tested positive for COVID-19.
The two were arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations who tracked them to their home in Ngeria, Uasin Gishu County.
“We have the two suspects in custody and they will be charged on Monday,” DCI director George Kinoti said.
The two are brothers, detectives said.
They said they had recovered a laptop and mobile phones from the two.
On Friday, the Ministry of Interior came out to deny the reports that Matiangi was in ICU following viral reports on social media.
“To all members of the public, please disregard the fake news and misinformation being spread on various outlets that CS Matiangi is hospitalized. The claims are completely untrue,” the ministry tweeted.
“There is nothing criminal in a blogger getting it WRONG. Mistakes are part of Media Freedom, if you cannot grow a THICK SKIN sue the blogger stop mis-using Police Power. When bloggers get it wrong, let them correct, apologize and we move on. Arresting them is unnecessary!” Dennis Itumbi said.
Miguna Miguna who agreed with Dennis Itumbi also chimed in over the arrest of the two brothers saying, “Criminals like Uhuru Kenyatta, Fred Matiang’i and Karanja Kibicho are wasting millions of tax-payers’ money to track and arrest high school kids for disseminating information about their COVID-19 status but they cannot arrest Msando’s and Kenei’s murderers because it’s THEM.”
Even the Senator for Kericho County, Aaron Cheruiyot had something to say about Fred Matiang’i’s arresting the two brothers.
“You entertain wet dreams of being president of Kenya, Yet when little boys misrepresent facts you abuse privilege n unleash all state power to hunt them down to rabbit holes?
Do these jokers of state appointees understand how brutal politics is ?”
