Mombasa gubernatorial hopeful Mike Sonko is yet to give up on his political career after the Supreme Court upheld his December 2020 impeachment.
Sonko has now moved to the East African Court of Justice with hopes that he will be able to get the justice that he is seeking with just about three weeks until the August 9 general elections is held.
In a statement, the former Nairobi governor revealed that he had visited the court on Monday to file a physical review of the Supreme court’s ruling after filing an online one on Sunday night.
“It’s not over until it’s over. There’s nothing like giving up in life. After an online filing of my Review challenging the Supreme court judgment at supreme court and filing of our case at the East African Court of Justice last night, we are now filling the main physical copies at the East African court of Justice,” Sonko said.

Meanwhile, IEBC has announced that it has revoked the clearance of Sonko to vie for Mombasa gubernatorial race. IEBC reached the decision following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Sonko’s impeachment as Nairobi governor.
“In adherence to the Supreme Court judgment you are therefore disqualified from holding any public office and thus disqualified from contesting and being elected as the governor of Mombasa or any other county. Your candidature is invalidated and your certificate revoked,” part of IEBC’s statement read.
The electoral commission had cleared Sonko to vie for Mombasa gubernatorial race after the Mombasa High Court directed it to do so saying that he had not exhausted all channels of appeal.Â
