Is Kalonzo Headed Back To Cabinet?

Date:

Former Vice President Kalonzo  Musyoka on Saturday gave the strongest hint ever that he is headed back to Cabinet.

Speaking to NTV, the former Vice President declared that “President Uhuru would have to inform me and I will have to negotiate with the National Executive Committee of my Party” …he told Kennedy Mureithi in the much-publicized Interview.

The response is seen by analysts as a major step back from his hardline stance that he once declared that “I would rather die than work with Jubilee” in 2016. In 2018, when confronted by the same question after the Raila Uhuru Handshake, Kalonzo declared that he would never dream of working Jubilee.

But since last year, the former VP has mellowed and has taken a complete about-turn in his position.

First, Wiper joined Kanu as the second party to have joined Jubilee by signing a coalition agreement. This effectively made Wiper a partner to Jubilee in Government.

Second, key Kalonzo Allies have joined several Boards in shakeups that have seen Ruto Allies being replaced. This has been seen as a precursor to bigger appointments.

With Kalonzo openly stating that he is open to negotiations with Uhuru on the Cabinet Appointment, it is just a matter of time before the big appointment is made.

In the Saturday 14th August 2020 interview, Kalonzo also challenged Deputy President William Ruto to resign noting that during his own time as former President Mwai Kibaki’s vice, he never got to a point of accusing his boss of undermining him.

“It shows that there is a dysfunctioning relationship between the president and his deputy. How can the deputy accuse the boss of using the deep state?” questioned Musyoka.

He further revealed that his relationship with the former head of state was healthy enough to an extent Kibaki backed his presidential bid at the time.

“One time, he (Kibaki) got his bakora and we drove through Machakos to Kitui and at Machakos, he said, ‘I am so happy with the way Stephen has helped me as president and I am asking you to help him go to the next level.’
