Irony As Ruto Asks USA To Help Him Stop Rigging After Appointing Davis Chirchir Who Hacked IEBC Servers In 2017

Date:

Deputy president William Samoei Ruto has cried to the USA to help him stop rigging attempts as the August 2022 general election looms.

Ruto, while giving a speech at Loyola University in the United States, expressed fears that the biggest threat to democracy in Kenya is the inability to make free choices at the ballot due to threats, intimidations, blackmail and rigging.

He made reference to the recent remarks by the Murang’a woman rep Sabina Chege who revealed that they rigged election in 2017 in favor of the current regime led by president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

While speaking in a political rally in Vihiga county, she told off deputy president William Ruto over his recent remarks that there were plans to rig him out in 2022.

The woman rep reiterated that the 2017 general elections was actually rigged and according to her, William Ruto ought not to complain about rigging since that is how he came into power.

“In Central I have heard them saying  that we stole the elections. There is some truth in that. They should know that if we knew how to rig in the previous elections, what makes you think we will not do something this time round? ,” She posed.

Chege further clarified that Raila was the people’s project and that every citizen ought to turn out in large numbers to vote him to the last man to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Baba has walked with the people and has become their project. Now we want to make him the people’s president. I urge you to turn up and vote because we already know that we have the numbers,” remarked Chege.

However, Ruto asking the United States to help in preventing electoral malpractices were seen as not only ironical but also hypocritical given that his key ally Mr. Davis Chirchir spearheaded election theft in 2017.

In fact, William Ruto has made Davis Chirchir his chief of staff months after the mysterious demise of one Mr. Ken Osinde who held that position earlier. The former energy cabinet secretary Mr. Chirchir was announced Ruto’s chief of staff on Wednesday 2nd March 2022.

However, his appointment has sent panic across the country given his role in the 2017 general elections that was nullified by the Maraga led supreme court.

In an internal Post Evaluation Report released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the commission stated that both Jubilee Party and NASA accessed their result transmission servers.

The report revealed that Jubilee’s chief agent then, Mr. Davis Chirchir attempted to hack the IEBC server 24 times out of which he made 10 successful logins.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) claimed that Davis Chirchir hacked the IEBC servers and helped Jubilee rig the elections in favor of president Uhuru. Mr. Chirchir was a former IEBC official and a tech expert. He was in charge of Information Communication Technology at the IEBC.

During the 2017presidential petition hearing, NASA lawyers led by Siaya Senator James Orengo and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo stated before the court that IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati’s account was used to access the servers several times in a bid to manipulate the results.

Therefore, Ruto rewarding an election thief/hacker Mr. Davis Chirchir and still complains of rigging in the USA is the highest level of hypocrisy.
