Just a day after threatening to support UDA’s Hassan Omar instead of Azimio’s Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir for Mombasa gubernatorial seat, Mike Sonko is ready to officially join UDA.
Sonko made the announcement on Saturday morning saying that he made the decision after thinking about what is best for his people in Mombasas now that time is not on his side to fight for his position on the ballot in the coming general elections.
“It is with a heavy heart that I come to you this morning. You all know what has been going on and how I have been pushed to the wall trying to do my best for you my people of Mombasa. Time is not on our side and I have had to sit down as a leader, think about what would be best for my people and I have come to the realization that I should work with a government that shares the same vision for my people as I and one that benefits them,” Sonko said.
Sonko and UDA leader William Ruto have reached an agreement that is yet to be signed or disregarded in less than two hours and he is seeking advice from his people on whether he should shift from Azimio to Kenya Kwanza.
He however noted that from what has been agreed, he will be tagging along Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo, who was to become his running mate in this year’s elections.
“With your blessings, I would want to get into this agreement with UDA, so that I can be assured of jobs and opportunities for my Mombasa and Nairobi people. I however will not leave without gratitude to His Excellency Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka who has stood with me all along with the same ambition of helping the people of Mombasa. I also pass my gratitude to His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta who has been like a brother to me and supported me and I wish him nothing but the very best of luck in his future endeavors,” Sonko said.
Below are the positions that UDA has offered the former Nairobi governor in the latest political deal in town.
- One CS National Government
