Sonko News has learnt that there is a bitter fallout in the Azimio coalition between president Uhuru Kenyatta and Baringo senator Gideon Moi.
According to a local publication, the choice of Martha karua as Raila Odinga’s runningmate is the cause of the bad blood between the son of Moi and the son of Kenyatta.
So dissatisfied is Gideon Moi with the choice of Martha Karua that he even made it known that Kenyan women rarely vote for one of their own and that the selection was a gamble which may as well backfire.
Gideon Moi had been pushing for Kalonzo Musyoka to be named Raila Odinga’s runningmate with sources revealing that he assured the Wiper boss of the seat.
Sources within the corridors of power reveal that the choice of Martha Karua has complicated the 2027 succession game for Gideon Moi. The Baringo senator had perceived Kalonzo as a lesser threat unlike Karua who may complicate the power games even further.
The publication adds that Gideon Moi is also concerned that since Martha karua did not back president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013, she is likely to spoil the succession matrix further by going for the top seat in 2027.
When the iron lady joined the One Kenya Alliance, the Baringo senator is said to have been very reluctant since he was not comfortable with her entry.
As a result, Moi met president Uhuru Kenyatta last week accompanied by Kalonzo Musyoka to discuss the matter but the head of state told the Baringo senator that the only way to defeat William Ruto was to pick Martha Karua as Raila’s runningmate.
President Uhuru as added by the source told Gideon Moi and Kalonzo Musyoka that they had no option but to back the Azimio pick or else they go separate ways.
The president was reportedly very keen on not letting Ruto have a field day in central Kenya since making Kalonzo Raila’s runningmate would automatically give Ruto very easy time in Mt. Kenya.
