Just after being released from custody Migori Governor Okoth Obado is facing another war back in his country after reports suggesting that there is a planned motion to impeach him in the county assembly.
On Monday Governor Obado was barred by the court from accessing his office pending the conclusion of the corruption case. On the same day, his party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) summoned Migori MCAs for a meeting on Tuesday with sources claiming the impeachment motion could be on the table during the meeting.
Chief Magisttrate Lawrence Mugambi also prohibited Obado from travelling outside the country.
Following the ruling, ODM, invited its members from the county assembly of Migori for an urgent “consultative meeting” in Nairobi on Tuesday.
ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen through a letter to County Assembly Majority Chief Whip keke Oyugi asking him to invited ODM MCAs for the meeting with its national leadership.
The executive director also sent SMS invited to the MCAs. Nation reported that the among the agenda to be discussed at the meeting is “charting the way forward for the county for the sake of the people of Migori.”
Sources have indicated that there is possibility of the impeachment motion against the Governor being one of subjects to be discussed.
One of the MCAs who sought anonymity told the national newspaper that if initiating an impeachment motion against the embattled governor will be of interest of the people of Migori, then it will be their first resort.
On the other end Migori County Assembly Speaker Baoz Okoth resumed his duty the very day the MCAs were asked to meet the party’s national leadership in Nairobi.
“I am aware of all that is happening in the County of Migori but I would not want to comment about the issues at this stage because of personal reasons,” Mr Boaz Okoth said.
he however noted that the county assembly will give a statement with time regarding the situation.
