Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga is shaping lives and nurturing talents through his football academy known as Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA).
The Al-Duhail goalscoring machine established the academy deep in his home village of Othoro, situated in Homa Bay County.
Olunga’s academy trains and mentors young individuals between the ages of 10 and 18.
International Recognition
His dream of establishing a football academy in every county started materializing after his MOFA Academy got an invitation to participate in the Gothia Cup in Sweden from July 16-22, 2023.
MOFA took part in the competition alongside renowned teams such as Everton, Newcastle, Red Star, and Besiktas amongst others.
“This is in line with our vision to expose young talent to the world. The journey just begun,” Olunga stated.
The competition helped MOFA gain international recognition for their outstanding display on and off the pitch.
Partnering With Local Schools
At the moment, MOFA is partnering with various schools to nurture talent in the country.
St Joseph’s Boys became the fourth school to benefit from the MOFA partnership after deals with Agoro Sare in Homabay, St Mary’s Yala in Siaya and Kisumu Day in Kisumu.
“I’m happy to be associated with St Joseph’s Boys, especially with the principal (Nabungolo), a renowned football lover and coach. MOFA has today entered into a partnership agreement with the school to develop and train talents in Trans Nzoia County,” Olunga stated.
The Upper Hill school alumni has featured for several clubs including Tusker, Gor Mahia, Girona, Djurgårdens IF, and Japanese-based side Kashiwa Reysol.
Olunga holds a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial engineering from the Technical University of Kenya (TUK).
