Inooro Tv Actress Charity Wacera Admits Taking Sh.500 After Being Raped

Date:

Inooro TV actress Charity Wacera popularly known as Gaterina has for the first time come out publicly to admit about being raped and battling depression.

According to Charity Wacera, her heavily built physical appearance made her hate herself to the point that she began suffering from depression since everyone in primary school was bullying her.

To find peace, Gaterina decided to run away from home but that even made things worse as she found herself falling in the hands of rapists.

While speaking to a local radio station, this is what Charity Wacera said: “I was raped four times. It would happen and I would never tell anyone. I started hating men and I would never talk about it.

I did not know the men who raped me. In the first instance, I had gone to Dandora and went to stay with some street kids, and a certain woman decided to help me.

She told me to go live at her nephew’s place. The nephew came back at night and raped me.”

Adding, “On a different occasion, a nurse spiked my drink and the people she was with raped me. The lady wanted a job and the people she was with asked her to give me to them as ‘payment.’

We went to a hotel and they ordered food and a soft drink as I was too young to drink. We went to another club and I went to the dance floor only to come back to a spiked soda.

While on the dance floor my friend (the nurse) would come and drag me back so that I could go finish my soda. When I did I started feeling dizzy and my eyesight became blurry and that’s when someone got me off the dance floor.

I woke up in a room with this guy. There is a time I saw him on TV so if I saw him I can recognize him. He took me to town and gave me Ksh 500. I did not even have bus fare. When I went back to the ladies house I found she had packed my clothes and threw me out. All I could do was cry.”

“My family was looking for me as I was still in high school. When I got my first son I got postpartum depression, I was also not ready for marriage. My family is not poor because I have never lacked anything, the family I was married to was also okay.

After my first child I stopped acting, I would be left alone in the house and I started realizing nothing made me happy. I lost interest in everything in life. That is when alcoholism started hitting me.

My husband would come back to a dirty house and nothing was done, so it got physical. I also started becoming aggressive. I realized that once I took alcohol I could do house chores easily sadly it became an addiction.

I could finish a whole mzinga in 1 hour and I would still be alert. One time I even collapsed while riding on a motorbike. My husband also felt like I was not ready to be a wife and a mum, I could also not feed my child yet there was money.”

As a result, Charity opened up that drinking started affecting her work and had to be hospitalized on different occasions.

“My husband looked for a psychiatrist after I tried committing suicide by wanting to throw myself off a balcony. I would sometimes collapse at work because I was not eating, I was stressed. On many occasions, I had to be rushed to the hospital while on set.

After ‘Gaterina’ ended I became worse and started drinking and I ended up leaving my marriage. I felt like him telling me to be his wife was adding to my stress. I would hide my depression as society does not expect me as a celebrity to go through such. That is why most people get to a point of committing suicide or going mad.”
