Anne Waiguru is facing possibly the toughest week in her political career after the crazy NYS scandal that rocked her earlier in her career.
The Kirinyaga governor was impeached by a majority of her MCA’s on Tuesday this week with the High Court upholding the validity of the decision by the County Council.
Now her only hope rests with the senate who can either vote to uphold the decision or throw it out keeping her as governor of Kirinyaga.
Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kangata said the Senate Business Committee meeting held on Friday afternoon resolved to hear Waiguru’s case on Tuesday.
Mr. Kang’ata also denied claims that he had been mobilizing Senators to support the formation of an 11-member team to handle the impeachment proceedings.
“It is the House that shall decide if the whole committee will hear and determine the case or if they will form an 11-member committee to hear Waiguru’s case,” Kang’ata told journalists.
The SBC is expected to present the order paper in the House during the preliminary sitting on Monday to decide procedure on how to hear Waiguru’s case on Tuesday.
“Whatever decision that will be rendered will be a fair and just decision that ensures justice is rendered for the Governor of Kirinyaga and the MCAs who initiated the impeachment process,” he added.

According to Kang’ata, the Senate is not swayed by extraneous issues such as politics or money as its decisions are based on evidence.
Were she to be impeached, Waiguru would be following in the footsteps of former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waitutu who was impeached late last year.
