Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has dispelled claims that he participated in rigging votes to ensure that president Uhuru Kenyatta emerges victorious in the 2017 general elections.
Speaking during the Day Break show at Citizen TV, Wamatangi insisted that Jubilee did not steal any votes in the 2013 and 2017 general elections.
“I wasn’t there in stealing votes, I don’t think that we stole any votes and we didn’t rig even one election and I think Moses Kuria could have been speaking in other context for that particular matter but for the record let me say that we have not and didn’t rig any elections,” Wamatangi said.
He further defended his victory in the two general elections saying that he won fairly and squarely and that can be confirmed if the ballot boxes at IEBC can be opened.
“The votes that I have and I got in the year 2013, 2017 if you go to the IEBC record and demand that the ballot boxes be opened if they are still there for the election that was held, my vote would still count for what I got,” Wamatangi noted.
According to him Kuria might have gotten carried away and made the remarks, something that happens in most political rallies
“So I believe that that is a political speech for that matter which happens most of the time in political rallies but we definitely didn’t rig any elections and we are not going to rig any,” Wamatangi added.
During UDA NDC at Kasarani, Kuria claimed that together with some other Jubilee politicians, who are now in UDA, they participated in rigging elections to make Kenyatta president.
“Hon Anne Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Ichung’wa, governor Muthomi Njuki, senator Linturi, Wamatangi, Wamaua, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, we are the ones who made Uhuru win, we are the ones who stole votes for him, all the minds that put Uhuru on the seat are here, those in Azimio are just bodies,” Kuria said.
Following his remarks, IEBC said it will summon him to shed more light on the matter.
