Melida Auma, the mother of Rongo university student Sharon Otieno who was murdered in 2018, claims that her life is in danger.
Speaking during an interview with the Nation, Auma claimed that her life is danger because of her association with Deputy President William Ruto.
She said that she now fears for her life because people think that DP Ruto gave her some money for mobilizing the ground during his recent tour in the Nyanza region.
According to her, some people are demanding for the money that they termed as proceeds of loot, which they claim she received from the Deputy President.
Auma who is eyeing the Homabay county Women Representative seat was among the organizers of DP’s Nyanza tour.
She has however denied claims of receiving money from the second in command.
“People think Ruto gave me money when he recently visited Homa Bay. Some have even attacked me. I had to be evacuated out of Cold Springs and taken to safety after people demanded that I give them money, something that I did not have. I fear for my security now,” said Auma.
Auma came into the limelight after the death of Sharon in September 4, 2018.
In early September, she announced that she had joined UDA and was going to vie for Homa Bay Town West ward seat.
She however ditched the plans and announced that she would be going for the women rep seat.
“Our people need representation in the next government. We have a lot of issues especially on the economic development of our people and it’s time we elect the right leaders. I’m a very ambitious woman who understands the plight of the people,” she said in an interview with a local website.
In the past, she that her move to join politics had nothing to do with the death of her daughter Sharon.
