Deputy President William Ruto said he will not support President Uhuru Kenyatta without asking questions.
Speaking at an interview with a local broadcast station on Sunday night, William Ruto said: “I support President Uhuru Kenyatta but I am not a fool… I will not support without asking a question when I have to…”
Ruto was reacting to a question that he opposed the changes to the Constitution which President Kenyatta was championing
“An intelligent person must ask questions. Just because you support someone does not mean that you cannot ask questions,” Ruto added.
The DP said he was still friends with his boss – Uhuru and he believed that he would support his presidential bid come 2022.
“If Jubilee Party gives me the ticket, I will go to Uhuru and ask him to support me and I believe that he will support me when we get there,” Ruto said.
Of late the DP has been receiving some attacks from Cabinet secretaries and some Jubilee Party officials something which Elgeyo Marakwet Senator believes the leaders did after receiving the blessing of the President.
William Ruto said some people had the aim of pushing him to fight the President but had failed.
“These people pretend that they are speaking for the President. The Uhuru Kenyatta that I know cannot be that petty. How can Uhuru send people to insult Ruto?” the DP said.
Ruto added that changes in the Parliament were aimed at making him react but when he did not some of his critics thought he was a coward.
The DP also told off Jubilee Vice-Chair David Murathe who had been rallying Jubilee supporters to support ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Ruto said soon, those going against the party would be kicked out of the Jubilee.
“Just relax. We will solve these things with time. Some of them are said to be involved in misappropriation of public funds,” the DP said.
On the debate about constitutional changes, Ruto said creating five positions for five tribal kingpins is not the answer to Kenya’s problems.
“The problem is not the Constitution but the people. We have been told that we need to change the Constitution to avoid electoral violence. The Constitution does not cause violence. The violence is caused by people who do not want to accept election results,” Ruto said.
According to Ruto the only answer to Kenya’s problems is to eliminate tribal politics in political parties and champion for national agenda.

“Unemployed youth languishing in poverty form the biggest group, bigger than any tribal group. This group is the biggest stakeholder in the formation of the next government,” the DP said.
The DP said instead of the country focusing on Constitutional changes, leaders should focus on creating jobs.
According to Ruto, the Big Four Agenda established to ensure that Kenyans have jobs, especially under the manufacturing and housing pillars.
“We are not doing as well as we would have wanted and that is why we are asking the Cabinet Secretaries to focus on ensuring that those things are delivered,” he said.
