Kenyan Benga artist Atomy woud Sifa is protesting the re-election of leaders in Homa Bay county in the coming general elections.
This is because the leaders who have been in power for the last 10 years have not done anything constructive to improve the lives of the locals while accusing them of stealing funds meant for development projects.
In a video shared on Facebook, the musician urged ODM leader Raila Odinga, who is the Luo kingpin, to reconsider those who have been selected to compete for various positions in the August 9 elections.
“I beg you in Jesus name, Raila Amollo Odinga Our King please Homa Bay should go back to the drawing board. Elections in Homa bay will not go like that because when people will fight and kill each other, it’s your vote. Those coups can not go back to Homa bay county. The roads are bad even the one going to the office.
“Nothing has happened for 10 years. Billions have been swindled and then the same leaders are being returned to office, no, let all of us die so that you come and bury us but we are not voting for them. We are fighting for our children not to be street children like I was a street child in Homabay,” Atomy said.
This comes at a time when ODM is conducting its nominations in different counties. Nominations in Homabay were conducted a few days ago.
Only two sitting MPs were subjected to the exercise since the other five were given direct tickets by ODM.
The two, Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino and his Karachuonyo counterpart Adipo Okuome won the contest after garnering 5,196 votes and 4,286 votes respectively. Ndiwa nominations attracted 9 aspirants while Karachuonyo had 15 aspirants.
Those who got direct tickets are Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay Town), Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul), Ongondo Were (Kasipul) and Lillian Gogo (Rangwe).
As incumbent MPs won tickets to retain their seats, almost half of the sitting MCAs lost to their opponents.
On the gubernatorial seat, the current women Rep Gladys Wanga was handed a direct ticket while as well as Oburu Odinga for the senatorial seat.
