“I Also Understand That There Is Life After Sprinting,” Omanyala Speaks After Landing Role With NPS

Kenyan sprinter and Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa has landed a role with the National Police service.

In a statement, NPS revealed that Omanyala will be representing the police service and the country in future track events.

“Voila! Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa, Africa’s 100m record holder and Kenya’s sensational sprinter has joined the National Police Service. The 25-year-old athlete has taken up a new role that will see him represent the National Police Service and the country in future track events,” NPS shared on Twitter.

Omanyala now joins the list of other elite athletes in the National Police Service including the likes of David Rudisha, Joshua Kamworor, Vivian Cheruiyot, Julius Yego, and the legendary Ezekiel Kemboi among others.

Omanyala will be assuming his duties in January. The 25-year old rose to fame  in Lagos Nigeria where he clocked 10.01 seconds on 30th March 2021 at an athletic event dubbed the ‘Making of Champions (MOC) Grand Prix’ where he met the qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Speaking after being briefed about his role by the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, the sprinter promised to give his best on the role.

“It is an honour to serve the National Police Service and I promise to give my best as an athlete. I also understand that there is life after sprinting,” he said

Mutyambai urged Omanyala to maintain his sporting discipline for him to utilize his full potential and at same time deliver on his new role as a Police athlete.

“I wish you well in the service for your country,” the IG said.

Omanyala is a second year student at the University of Nairobi where he is undertaking a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
