How Uhuru Tricked Mike Sonko To Surrender Nairobi

Date:

Embattled Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko has come to reveal how the President tricked him to surrender his power to him.

On Friday, Mike Sonko claimed that he was not in the right state of mind when he signed the deal to transfer some functions of the county to the National Government early this year.

Governor Sonko signed a deed transfer to the National Government after a prolonged political battle with insiders and employees at his county government being involved in corruption allegations and dramatic arrests.

Sonko signed the transfer of duties at State Gouse, Nairobi in the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, and Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka.

With the move, the President appointed Maj Gen Ali Badi to manage these transferred functions as the Nairobi Metropolitan Service.

But Sonko now claims that he was not sober at the time of signing the agreement.

“I was not sober (when I signed the bill).” the governor told his followers on Facebook during a live interaction with them.

Hawa watu wa State House waliniconfuse na pombe kwanza (some people at State House confused me with some alcohol) by the time I was meeting the President for the signing I was just seeing zigzag.”

When reporters reached the State House spokesperson Kanze Dena for comment on the issue, she said, “No comment.”

Sonko added that despite unwilling to sign the deal, he went ahead and did it out of respect for President Kenyatta.

“However, even if I was drunk, I had to sign because of the respect I have for the President, and also both of us meant well for you the Great people of Nairobi.”

The city governor also claimed he would consider revoking the law as per the law.
