It has been 2 weeks now and a few days since Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria decided to forego his presidential ambitions and instead support ODM leader Raila Odinga in the general elections slated for August 9.
The governor reached the decision after the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission declined to clear him for failing to meet certain requirements.
While making the announcement, Wa Iria said that he had had a lengthy discussion with Odinga and that they had agreed on how their manifestos can be merged to help Kenyans.
“I told Raila that if we combined his KSh 6,000 pledge and my cow programme, then we will take Kenyan families above the poverty line. I told him that those have to be in our joint manifesto and we did a deal. He stated that will happen,” he said in a previous press briefing.
Aside from that, he is to walk away with a cabinet secretary slot in case Raila wins the elections that are just three days away.
Wa Iria has however listed a number of things that drew him towards Raila and not William Ruto, or any of the remaining presidential candidates namely; Waihiga Mwaure of Agano Party and George Wajackoya of Roots party.
According to him, Raila was there for him when he was being frustrated by IEBC over his presidential ambitions.
“IEBC breached my rights by refusing to give me a listening ear. @RailaOdinga stood by me and we talked for over 3 hours and this is why I decided to join Azimio La Umoja,” Wa Iria said in a tweet.
He further referred to Raila as a gentleman who never has evil plots against anyone.
“Raila is a gentleman, he does not lie, steal, or plan evil against anyone. He is a wise man who has no malice towards anybody. My decision to join Azimio was influenced by that,” the governor added.
