HELB Waives Sh1000 Compliance Certificate Fee For Job Seekers

Good news for Job seekers has they will no longer be required to pay Sh1000 for the issuance of a compliance certificate.

The news comes after the Higher Education Board (HELB) waived the fee after a heeding to the public outcry.

“It has repeatedly come to our attention that the charges for non-loanee compliance certificate are perceived to be punitive, especially to the many unemployed youths who did not benefit from the student loans.” HELB CEO Charles Ringera said in a statement.

Those seeking the compliance certificate will now get it for free and will access it from the HELB website – www,helb.co.ke, or the E-Citizen portal.

Some of the major concerns that were raised by Kenyans to be body to withdraw the fee include:

•Unemployment and Under-employment challenges,

•Slow economic growth and escalated cost of living, and

•Retrenchment and downsizing affecting all sectors which have been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

HELB believes that the waiver will motivate graduates to seek their HELB certificate as they search for employment opportunities.

The move by HELB is good news for many as most potential employers require the HELB compliance certificate, even if you did not get the HELB loan.

In government institutions, most of the occasions lack of compliance certificate could deny one a promotion.
