The father of a 35-year old Kirinyaga man accused of killing his whole family says that he is shocked by the incident.
Gichovi Njuki told NTV that his son, Paul Murage Njuki from Kathata village in Gichugu, loved his family and they lived well.
“I am very shocked at the things I am hearing. He loved his children and they lived well. They even worked with his wife.”
He added that his son was a good child while growing up and was never involved with any bad incident.
“He was a good child and I have never seen anything bad. Growing up he was a very good kid. I have never seen him use drugs and even now he was farming,” he said.
Murage is accused of brutally murdering his 38-year old wife and their four children aged 1 and 13 before surrendering himself at the Kianyaga police station.
He is believed to have first killed his wife before descending on the rest of his family members.
He is said to have also defiled his eldest daughter before killing her. According to witnesses, one of the boys had burns on his leg indicating that Murage had burnt him as well.
He was arraigned at the Gichugu Law Courts on Wednesday but did not take a plea after detectives sought 14 days to conclude their investigations.
The court granted the prosecution their request. The officer in charge of the investigations, Lazarus Kiprop told the court that during the period, the suspect will undergo mental assessment to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
Detectives will also gather testimonies from witnesses, collect DNA samples from the suspect to compare them with those on exhibits that are with authorities and as well analyze them.
Detectives are also seeking to establish the whereabouts of other suspects and a missing weapon that was used in the heinous crime.
