The President of the Law Society of Kenya Nelson Havi on Monday led protests demanding Members of Parliament to vacate the Parliament Building over the Chief Justice David Maraga’s advisory to dissolve parliament.
Havi together with the United Green Movement’s Jonathan Mueke went to the Speaker’s boardroom to serve them with vacation notices.
The ‘Occupy Parliament’ movement is a movement organized by the LSK to force President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve Parliament as advice by the Chief Justice over the Parliament’s failure to implement the two-thirds gender rule.
According to the LSk, MPs ceased to exercise their legislative powers on behalf of Kenyans.
Last month, Chief Justice David Maraga advised the President to dissolve Parliament over the continued violation of the two-thirds gender representation rule.
According to the CJ, the failure by Parliament to enact a law to operationalize the provision by the constitution amount to an act of impunity.

Maraga said he was acting following six petitions filed in pursuant to Article 261 (7) of the Constitution.
“It is incontestable that Parliament has not complied with the High Court order, As such, for over 9 years now, Parliament has not enacted the legislation required to implement the two-thirds gender rule which, as the court of Appeal observed in its said judgment, it is a clear testimony of Parliament’s lackadaisical attitude and conduct in this matter. Consequently, it is my constitutional duty to advise Your Excellency to dissolve Parliament under Article 261 (7) of the Constitution.”
