Starehe MP Charles Kanyi Njagua aka Jaguar has raised concerns regarding the UDA nomination exercise in his constituency.
The party conducted nominations on April 14 in 36 counties including Nairobi and Jaguar was among the UDA bigwigs who lost to their opponents. He lost to Simon Mbugua.
The musician-cum politicians was not satisfied with the April 14 exercise thus requested for a repeat of it but the party opted for an opinion poll instead of going the ballot way. The same method will be applied in Embakasi East and Kamkunji constituencies.
It however emerged that Mbogo still won in the opinion polls but Jaguar disputed that. Through a tweet, Jaguar shared his concerns accompanied with a video of a person flipping what looked like UDA nomination certificates and one of the certificates bore Mbugua’s name as UDA’s flagbearer of the parliamentary seat race in the coming general elections.
“Could this be an outcome of certificates that started making rounds before nominations? Is democracy at stake here? I will be holding discussions with the people of Starehe and decide on the way forward. The voice of the people matters,” Jaguar said.
He went on to complain about the opinion poll method saying it denied his constituents their democratic right
“The people of Starehe were denied their democratic right to go to the ballot again for the nominations and choose their leader. The party decided to carry out opinion polls to decide whom to award the nomination certificate and it has been done,” the incumbent said.
In a separate tweet, Jaguar shared some undated opinion poll results by Infotrack for the MP and MCA aspirants.
The results showed that he was leading in the MP contest. Mbugua came second as Amos Mwoga came third.
“Hatutabishana sana na nyinyi let the people decide,” Jaguar said.
