Gunmen attacked Kabul University campused and killed at least 10 students and exchanging fire with security personnel, sources said.
The attackers were said to have been targeting students and fired at them as they fled in the Afghan capital, CNN reported.
“They were shooting at every student they saw,” FethullahMoradi told Reuters, saying he had managed to escape through one of the university’s gates with a group of friends.
The Taliban have so far claimed the deadly attack. No other militia group immediately claimed the responsibility.
Witnesses said the attack was followed by an explosion in the area.
“At least 10 killed many others wounded,” the senior government official told Reuters on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to media.
A number of attackers entered the campus and were fighting the security forces, according to the interior ministry spokesman Tariq Arian.
Police sources say at least 15 people were injured in the attack.
NATO Senior Civilian Representative to Afghanistan Stefano Pontecorvo condemned the attack by the gunmen.

“This is the second attack on educational institutions in Kabul in 10 days. Afghan children & youth need to feel safe going to school,” he said in a statement as reported by CNN.
This comes just a month after a similar attack happened in an education center in Kabul living 24 people dead, mostly students.
Violence has plagued Afghanistan while the government together with Taliban negotiators are meeting in Qatar trying to broker a peace deal and as the United States takes back her soldiers.
