Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru could have the last laugh as her fiercest competitor Purity Ngirici has been dragged into fake certificate scandal.
The fake certificate scandal started after Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi was exposed for forging KCSE and diploma certificates.
Anti-corruption court was on Tuesday October 26th told that Sudi did not sit the 2006 KCSE exams as earlier alleged.
Sudi forged the documents to circumvent Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) requirements on academic qualifications.
The fake certificate scandal has seen a handful of politicians named as having forged their academic credentials – the latest being Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Purity Ngirici.
The Kirinyaga Women Rep has been dragged into an online debate with some Kenyans questioning her academic credentials, whether they are fake or genuine.
Ngirici was on Thursday October 28th forced to come out to set the record straight about her academic qualifications.
Taking to social media, Ngirici maintained that she can give an account of all her certificates and that all institutions she attended can support her academic credentials with proper documentation.
Ngirici holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Gretsa University, having been in the institution between 2014 to 2016.
She also holds different diplomas, having pursued a Higher Diploma in Business Management from the Regional Institute of Business Management.
“All my academic records are straight and available with the relevant institutions,” wrote Ngirici.
Ngirici is seeking to unseat Waiguru in the forthcoming 2022 general election – the two are locked in a fierce battle as they are now in the same party UDA.
According to requirements by IEBC, anyone wishing to contest for governor seat must hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
