Winners Of East Africa Got Talent Esther And Ezekiel Are Yet To Receive Their Cash Prize

Date:

The winners of East Africa Got Talent, Esther and Ezekiel Mutesasira from Uganda, have not received the prize money for the competition.

It is now two years since the siblings emerged winners of EAGT and they were to receive a cash prize of Kshs5 million.

Through a Facebook live video, Esther and Ezekiel said that they have tried to claim their prize but their efforts have proved futile.

“It is you that did vote for us, we had lost hope but by God’s grace, we won the EAGT competitions. Today we still haven’t received the winner’s prize money, it’s very sad. 2 years of wait. Hey beloved ones, we are beyond frustrated. We are writing this to seek speedy resolution to the delayed release of East Africa Got Talent $50,000 cash prize that was supposed to be given to us winners,” they said.

The duo said that they are grateful for the opportunity they were given at EAGT but no one from the talent show has reached out to them to follow up on the matter.

“Don’t get us wrong, its (sic) been such an amazing experience, very humbling, inspiring other young kids and all the amazing people we’ve met along the way. While we appreciate the platform EAGT gave us, it is their duty as well to fulfill the promises,” the siblings said.

Esther and Ezekiel further said that they have failed to honor charity promises as a result of them not getting their cash prize.

“This is a serious concern to us as the funds are delayed, no one from EAGT has reached out…like you recall, we promised to donate some of the money to different charities and wouldn’t want to make empty promises! Sorry, we had to shed some light on this,” they added.

The first season of EAGT took place in Kenya in 2019 where Esther and Ezekiel claimed victory by singing Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey’s song, When You Believe.

The judges of the show were Jeff Koinange(Kenya), Vanessa Mdee(Tanzania), Gaetano Kagwa (Uganda) and Rwanda’s DJ Makeda Mahadeo while the MC was comedian Anne Kansime.

EAGT is yet to respond to the issue
