Dennis Mbae, an Embu-based businessman and politician, lost his life on Wednesday night after unknown assailants sprayed his vehicle with at least 20 bullets.
The incident occurred in Bonanza at around 11pm as he was on his way home inside his white Toyota Noah vehicle.
His car was blocked by another car that had no registration numbers before gunmen descended on him with bullets.
Mbae, popularly known as Mbuyu, was found alive by those who responded to the gunshots, with his car in a ditch. He was rushed to the Embu Referral hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

Those responsible for Mbae’s death are yet to be discovered but reports indicate that Mbae has been sought by the law for a long period of time.
He is suspected to be a leader of a criminal gang and was well connected with the police. He also has several cases pending in court.
Back in May 2014, Mbae was accused of murder along four other people after a man was found dead in his home at Shauri Estate, Embu.
The man identified as Patrick Ndwiga Njahi was a liquor businessman. He was found dead with stab wounds.
The accused persons denied the murder charges before Justice Florence Muchemi claiming that they had been arrested for selling liquor without a license. The murder case is yet to be concluded.
Four years later, he was wanted again by detectives over suspicions of trafficking drugs from Ethiopia. After three months of being investigated and trailed, he was arrested and charged, at the same court he was previously charged, with trafficking bhang worth Kshs260,000.
The police cornered him at his house in Dallas Estate, where they found 13kgs of bhang in a Toyota Probox after conducting a search.
He denied the charges in the court of law and was released on a Kshs300,000 bond. The case is also still pending in court.
Mbae tried his luck in politics by vying for MCA seat at Kirimari ward under a Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket in 2017 but he lost to Morris Nyaga.
