Former Premier League winner Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as the new manager of Watford. Ranieri was appointed following the sacking of Xisco Munoz who managed Watford for barely a year.
Watford is hoping to use Ranieri’s experience in the football managerial field. The Italian won Premier League with Leicester in the 2015/2016 season.
It is the 14th time Watford is changing its manager ever since the Pozzo family took over the football club in 2012.
Following his appointment, the club is hoping Ranieri will improve the club’s form as they currently sit at position 14th after taking garnering seven points from seven games.
Ranieri’s first game with Watford will be at home against Liverpool after the international break.
Watford will be Ranieri’s 21st club to manage in his 35-year managerial career. During this time, Ranieri has won eight trophies including a Coppa Italia in 1996 with Fiorentina, 2004/2005 Super Cup with Valencia, and 2016/2016 Premier League with Leicester.
Watford will be Ranieri’s fourth club to manage having managed Chelsea, Fulham, and Leicester.
Ranieri was sacked by Leicester when the team was only one point above the relegation zone with 13 matches left to complete the 2016/17 season.
From Leicester, Ranieri took a season off from Premier League before he returned to manage Fulham in 2018. At Fulham, he only lasted for 106 days before he was sacked when the club was facing relegation.
