Former Likono MP Masoud Mwahima died late Monday night at his Vyemani home in Likoni Sub-county, Mombasa
The former MP and also one time Mombasa mayor died at around 11 pm after suffering from asthma complications.
“We took him to hospital after he had complained of asthma yesterday (Sunday), and when we brought him back, he was okay. Today night when we were seated outside our home, we heard a long silence and when we went to check him, he was dead,” said his son Juma as reported by Nation.
The 78-year-old politician is also said to have been fighting other illnesses that come with old age including diabetes.
His family said he suffered from asthma, for which he received treatment at St Thomas Hospital on Sunday.
Mwahima lost his seat during the 2017 election to the incumbent, Mishi Mboko of ODM party after a disputed poll.
Mwahima filed a petition challenging Mboko’s win arguing that the election process was not free and fair.
But in March 2018, Mombasa High Court upheld the election of Mboko.

The high court Judge, Erick Ogola validated Mboko’s election, saying Mwahima could not prove that Mboko won the elections out of irregularities.
The former legislature’s death comes just days after the demise of yet another senior coastal politician Ramadhan Kajembe who died of complications of Covid-19.
